The Cleveland Show was created by Seth MacFarlane after developing Family Guy and American Dad!. MacFarlane took the character of Cleveland and his son Cleveland Jr. from Family Guy and redesigned Junior. MacFarlane and Mike Henry pitched a 22-minute pilot to Fox, which aired on September 27, 2009, but had been leaked online 1 in June 2009. Before the show's premiere, it was already renewed for a second season of 22 episodes. After the first season aired, it was renewed for a third season and given the green light to start production. Shortly after the second season aired in 2011, Fox renewed The Cleveland Show for a third season.
