The cartoon trio Alfe, Roba, and Horace started in a 2001 comic called "Roba" on the Paper Rad website. They showed up again in another comic titled "MB" there. Their animation debut was in a music video called "star kings" also on Paper Rad. Their first longer animation was a short called "Alfe" on the 2006 "Trash Talking" DVD. In 2008, short "Problem Solvers" episodes appeared online and on a DVD, but without the main characters. These episodes introduced the show's problem-solving theme. A grown-up cartoon series called "Neon Knome" was pitched in 2010, but later reworked for a younger audience on Cartoon Network.
