In the original "Big Bad Beetleborgs," three average pre-teens—Derek, Margo, and Jo—stumble into a haunted house and meet a quirky blue ghost named Flabber. After freeing him from a pipe organ, they make a wish to become their favorite superheroes, the Beetleborgs. However, this wish inadvertently releases the Beetleborgs' foes, the evil Magnavores, from their comic book pages. Now, as the Beetleborgs, the kids must protect their city from the likes of Noxic, Jara, Typhus, and their leader, Vexor, who unleash various villains from the comics. They hide out in Hillhurst Mansion, where they encounter Flabber’s eccentric housemates, the House Monsters, including Count Fangula and Mums, ensuring that their adventures are filled with excitement. In the follow-up series, "BeetleBorgs Metallix," Art Fortunes, the creator of the Beetleborgs comics, takes the story further.
