Set in the near future, some decades after 1999, the series follows Professor Dr. Amadeus Sharp, head of the Special Projects Labs, who develops advanced bionic technology to enhance humans. His first subject is Jack Bennett, a test pilot who secretly serves as Sharp's field agent, Bionic-1. During a family ski trip in the Himalayas, an alien spacecraft causes an avalanche that buries Jack's family and exposes them to strange radiation from a mysterious object. While Jack manages to escape, he finds his family in a coma. Believing that Jack's bionics protected him, Professor Sharp implants similar technology in his family, reviving them. They then operate undercover as a celebrated team of superheroes known as the Bionic Six. The main antagonist is the mad scientist Doctor Scarab, who, along with his henchmen—Glove, Madam-O, Chopper, Mechanic, and Klunk—poses a significant threat. Scarab, who is ironically Professor Sharp's brother, is obsessed with achieving immortality and world domination, convinced that his brother's bionic technology holds the key to his ambitions and constantly schemes to acquire it.
