Hand Maid May

At Ochanomizu Industrial University, second-year engineering student Kazuya Saotome is a geek. He is working to create an artificial intelligence (AI) robot that resembles a toy squid in order to fulfill his longtime desire of creating a robot similar to Doraemon. The plot starts when Kotaro Nanbara, a wealthy rival of Kazuya's, presents him with a computer software that promises to provide useful data to aid Kazuya's study and development. In reality, Kazuya's computer was infected by Nanbara's virus-created application, which then obliterated all of his work. Kazuya unintentionally orders a "cyberdoll" from the Cyberdyne Corporation website while trying to patch his corrupted computer. A woman knocks on Kazuya's door with a little package containing Hand Maid May, a cyberdoll. May, a palm-sized robotic doll, is extraordinarily perceptive and understanding of Kazuya's needs, wants, and feelings. Due to Kazuya's inability to pay for May, Nanbara attempts to have her taken away from him early on in the plot. In an effort to steal May from Kazuya, Nanbara enlists the aid of various other cyberdolls, but they all end up falling for Kazuya and failing to get May back.
