The rivalry between the Yagyu Jubei and Ryujoji schools is the major one in The Secret of the Lovely Eyepatch. 300 years before the events of the series, Yagyu Jubei's victory over the Ryujoji school champion appeared to put an end to the competition. As he passed away from his wounds, Jubei instructed his devoted friend Koinosuke to seek out a person with "plump, bouncy bon bons" and give them his eyepatch, which was embedded with a lifetime's worth of sword skills. Koinosuke is unaware of the Ryujoji clan's plans for retaliation.
