Momo: The Girl God of Death (Ballad of a Shinigami)

The main character of Ballad of a Shinigami is Momo (), a young-appearing girl who is a shinigami, or death deity. Momo is a god of death who guides the spirits of the dead to the other side while wearing just white clothing and sporting long white hair. She carries a sizable scythe and an ID card that makes it easier for others to recognize her as a shinigami; it has her shinigami ID number, A-100100. Momo stands out from other shinigami because she works to lessen the suffering of everyone she comes into contact with, whether they are alive or dead. One example of this is when she sends messages from the dead to the living. She is also well known for crying a lot, and she claims that this is because the deceased can no longer cry for themselves. Momo has a talking black cat friend named Daniel (, Danieru) who assists Momo and has bat-like wings and a bell around his neck. When Momo and Daniel are nearby, Daniel's bell frequently chimes, which is audible to the living. Although Daniel does not have the same level of empathy for people as Momo does, he is still patient with them. Daniel has a serene demeanor. Daniel is portrayed as a young kid rather than a cat in the television show. In most cases, the plot involves Momo and Daniel modifying something painful for the living when they interact with the living.
