Mushishi
Mushishi is set in a hypothetical era between the Edo and Meiji periods, with some technology from the 19th century but Japan still being a "locked country." The protagonists of the tale are omnipresent creatures known as Mushi, who frequently exhibit what seem to be superhuman abilities. There are supposedly many more basic lifeforms than "regular" living things including animals, plants, fungus, and bacteria, and Mushi is the most primitive of them all. Most humans are unable to perceive Mushi because of their ethereal nature and are unaware of their existence, but a small number have the capacity to see and communicate with Mushi. Ginko, the series' protagonist who is voiced by Travis Willingham in the English dub and Yuto Nakano in the original version, is one such individual. He works as a Mushi Master, traveling from place to place to study Mushi and assist anyone experiencing issues brought on by them.
