Kenichi Mitsuba, 10, is a typical child who attends a high school and has academic difficulties. Due to his extreme laziness and stubbornness, he consistently irritates his parents and professors. Hattori finds it exceedingly annoying that he always looks for an easy way out. Meanwhile, Kenichi and a young ninja named Kanzo Hattori become close friends. Along with his brother Shinzo and his ninja dog Shishimaru, Hattori joins the Mitsuba household. As a close buddy, Hattori always keeps an eye on Kenichi and assists him with his troubles. The love interest for Kenichi is shown to be Yumeko.
