Gamilas, an alien race, first contacted Earth in 2191. When the first attempt at peaceful communication with the Gamilas was unsuccessful, intergalactic conflict ensued. Even though it was outmatched by the Gamilas' space naval forces, the United Nations Cosmo Navy was able to halt their direct attacks on Earth in the Second Battle for Mars, while suffering significant losses. The Gamilas then started bombarding planets with modified asteroids they nicknamed "planet bombs" from their military stronghold on Pluto. The United Nations' attempts to rebuild their space fleet were hampered by these weapons, which compelled Earth to build underground cities to safeguard humanity. The biosphere of the planet was entirely destroyed as a result of the planet bombs' alteration of the atmosphere and radiation of the planet's surface. The Gamilas then introduced plant life that was fatal to any life on Earth, beginning what is said to be their first move in terraforming—making the Earth their home. The Izumo Plan, developed by the United Nations in an effort to save humankind from extinction, calls for a small colony of humans to depart Earth. However, Starsha from the planet Iscandar learnt of Earth's predicament in the early days of 2198 and sent her sister Yurisha to Earth. The Dimensional Wave Motion Engine concepts that would have allowed for interstellar travel as well as other technological aid for Earth were provided by Yurisha.
