Yu Yu Hakusho
Yusuke Urameshi, a 14-year-old street brawler and delinquent, is followed in YuYu Hakusho. In an out-of-character gesture of kindness, he attempts to save a small child by pushing him out of the way but instead gets hit by a car and murdered for it. Botan, a lady who identifies herself as the captain of the River Styx, which transports souls to the Underworld where they may be judged for the afterlife, welcomes the ghost of the deceased. Botan tells Yusuke that his deed had surprised even the Underworld and that neither heaven nor hell had yet prepared a spot for him. Thus, Yusuke is given the opportunity to return to his body through a series of tests by Koenma, the son of King Enma, the ruler of the Underworld. With the aid of his pals Kazuma Kuwabara and Keiko Yukimura, Yusuke succeeds. Koenma gives Yusuke the title of "Underworld Detective" after coming back to life and assigns him the task of looking into paranormal activity in the Human World. Yusuke will soon go on his first case, rescuing the riches Hiei, Kurama, and Goki that were taken from the Underworld by a group of demons. Yusuke uses his new skill, the Rei Gun—a shot of aura or Reiki fired mentally from his index finger—to gather the three prizes. Then he makes his way to the highlands to look for the retired martial arts instructor Genkai. Yusuke battles through a competition set up by Genkai to choose her successor alongside his adversary Kuwabara. Yusuke uses the contest as a pretext to look for Rando, a demon that kills martial arts experts and steals their techniques. After defeating Rando in the tournament's final round, Yusuke practices with Genkai for several months to improve his aura control. The Four Beasts, a group of demons attempting to blackmail Koenma into removing the barrier preventing them from entering the Human World, are defeated by Kuwabara, the newly transformed Kurama, and Hiei with the help of Yusuke, who is then sent to Labyrinth Castle in the Demon Plane, a third world inhabited solely by demons.
