Batman Beyond
20 years after Batman: The Animated Series and The New Batman Adventures, as well as 15 to 17 years after Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, the tale begins in 2019. In spite of being past his prime and in his mid- to late 50s, Bruce Wayne still fights crime as Batman in a brand-new, high-tech Batsuit, however he now finds it more challenging to deal with criminals than he did in the past. He suffers a mild heart attack during what should have been a routine mission to save the kidnapped heiress and daughter of an old socialite friend, and in order to save his life from being beaten to death by one of the kidnappers, he is forced to violate both his paramount rule and a lifelong principle by threatening the criminals with the same kind of gun that killed his parents and inspired him to become Batman in the first place. In this point in his life, his close friends Commissioner James Gordon, Dr. Leslie Thompkins, Hamilton Hill, Harvey Bullock, Renee Montoya, Lucius Fox, and Summer Gleeson have all either retired or passed away naturally, and Bruce is ashamed and fears that if he continues fighting crime, he will eventually succumb to his murderous compulsion. He decides to give up being Batman for good. Dick Grayson, Barbara Gordon, Tim Drake, and Selina Kyle, his crime-fighting partners, are all still alive and have broken off their relationship with him after retiring as their alter identities and maybe having disagreements with him. His rogues' gallery, consisting of Joker, Harley Quinn, Two-Face, Penguin, Riddler, Scarecrow, Poison Ivy, Man-Bat, Mad Hatter, Bane, Clayface, Ra's al Ghul and his daughter Talia, Phantasm, Ventriloquist, Scarface, Firefly, Mr. Freeze, Hugo Strange, Rupert Thorne, Deadshot, Baby-Doll and Killer Croc are all either in prison, exile, reformed, have disappeared or are dead. Additionally, he cut off his relationship with and left the Justice League.
