The 10-year-old fairy Butterbean, who builds and runs her own café with assistance from her sister Cricket and friends Poppy, Dazzle, and Jasper, is the focus of the Puddlebrook-based animated series. Anthropomorphic chipmunks and rabbits are the main customers of the café. Grumpy Ms. Marmalady, who always attempts to push Butterbean out of business, sits next to the café. There is a recurring joke in which a character, who changes depending on the episode, breaches the fourth wall by explaining current events to the audience in a confessional documentary-style monologue. For the majority of the episode, the fairies collaborate to create delicious treats. Depending on the episode, Butterbean plants a special effect-producing multicolored surprise bean that she refers to as "The Fairy Finish" if the treat is successfully preserved.
