Shou Zama, a typical 18-year-old from Tokyo, is called to the Byston Well medieval fantasy universe. When he arrives, he is assigned to the ambitious Lord Drake Luft, who wishes to massively increase his power. Those from "Upper Earth," like Shou, have high aura power and are instructed to pilot "Aura Battlers," insectoid mecha built by a man from Upper Earth named Shot Weapon. Shou meets Marvel Frozen, a young woman who has made the decision to rebel against Drake's political motive, and this causes him to quickly change his loyalties. The boy decides to confront Drake and join forces with Neal Given, the leader of the resistance movement, after learning the lord's actual intentions. Riml, the enemy's daughter and Neal's hidden love, joins the resistance in an effort to free herself from her father's control. TThey risk their lives to stop the evil Drake from conquering Byston Well before it's too late, and Shou finds himself fighting alongside his new allies.
