Nakahito Kagura, a little child, is the protagonist of the tale. A bunch of his peers pressure him to enter a home that is thought to be the residence of a mad scientist. He discovers what appears to be a lifelike doll within. The house is attacked at the same moment by the Japanese Army. The "doll" collapses during the attack, and Nakahito accidentally kisses it, waking it up. Kurumi, a Steel Angel, is revealed to be the doll and is being sought for by the military for unspecified reasons.
