Dororo to Hyakkimaru
The story of Dororo takes place during the Sengoku era and centers on a rinin named Hyakkimaru and a young, orphaned robber named Dororo. The rnin was born deformed, limbless, and lacking in both internal organs and facial features. This came about as a result of his birth father's daimy, Kagemitsu Daig, making a deal with 48 sealed demons in order to govern the realm and boost its prosperity. He promised the demons anything they desired that belonged to him in exchange. They were able to roam freely and perpetrate crimes throughout the countryside as a result. The infant was later discovered and raised by Jukai, a medicine man who used healing magic and alchemist techniques to give the child prosthetics made from the remains of children who had died in the war, after his mother Nui no Kata was forced to cast him adrift on the river lest he be killed by his father. The prosthesis and the healing magic made the boy almost impervious to any lethal blow. A traveling storyteller gave Jukai a very unusual blade, claiming it was fated to be in his possession because the doctor had been visited by goblins ever since the boy had been found. The blade was grafted into Jukai's left arm. The blade had been made out of vengeance to slay goblins and other magical beings, as was revealed in a brief account about its genesis.
