Hell Girl
Each episode usually takes the shape of a stand-alone short narrative in which a character joins the Hell Correspondence website and files a request to get rid of a friend who has been torturing him or her. The Hell Girl, Ai Enma, appears and hands the named antagonist a doll with a red rope around its neck that can transport him or her to Hell. When the string is pulled, Ai and her friends torment the enemy, giving them one more opportunity to repent (which is typically turned down), and ultimately transporting them to Hell. The agreement stipulates that the individual making the request must likewise spend the rest of his or her life in Hell. Beginning with the ninth episode, Hajime Shibata, a former journalist who has taken to using scandal images to extort people, starts looking into the allegations surrounding the Hell Correspondence website and learns that individuals are essentially being dragged to Hell. Tsugumi, his daughter, has some way of seeing Enma. As the show goes on, they struggle with the decision of whether or not to step in and help the victims. A mysterious young girl from Hell named Kikuri is introduced in the second season. Between Earth and the Twilight realm, where Enma resides, Kikuri can go around at will. Later, the plot revolves around Takuma Kurebayashi, a young kid who is accused by his townpeople of being responsible for a series of disappearances that were actually brought on by the use of the "Hell Correspondence" website by the townpeople. In the third season, Yamawaro, a yokai, accepts Enma's invitation to become her fourth assistant and Kikuri makes a comeback to recruit Enma's assistants. The plot centers on Yuzuki Mikage, a young schoolgirl who has been mysteriously taken over by Enma. In the fourth season, a new character named Michiru is introduced, and Ai aids her in accepting her destiny as the next Hell Girl.
