Aeon Flux
The setting of Aeon Flux is a fantastical future world inspired by German Expressionism. The cities of Monica and Bregna are divided by a border wall, and the scenario is a weird dystopia populated by mutant monsters, clones, and robots. The main character is a dominatrix secret agent from the city of Monica who is tall, attractive, barely dressed, and talented in espionage, assassination, and gymnastics. Her goal is to infiltrate and overthrow the strongholds of Bregna, a technocratic dictatorship whose Breen residents are ruled by Trevor Goodchild, her sworn nemesis and occasionally lover. The two cities fight an endless battle for ideological dominance. Bregna personifies an Orwellian police state, while Monica stands for a dynamic, anarchist society that is nihilistic and devoid of norms. This is shown by the titles of their respective characters: Flux, who represents the independent agent from Monica, and Goodchild, who represents the independent head of Bregna. The series frequently explores themes of tragic or forbidding love because Trevor has everything but Aeon, who he really desires, and Aeon is free to do whatever she pleases with the exception of killing Trevor.
