Three years in a row, the Teiko Middle School basketball team defeated other Japanese basketball teams to claim the middle school national championship. The team's outstanding players earned the moniker "Generation of Miracles." The five greatest players attended various high schools with elite basketball teams after finishing middle school. However, there was a myth that the "Generation of Miracles" included a sixth guy who never existed. This enigmatic player is now a freshman at Seirin High, a brand-new institution with a potent, albeit obscure, team. Tetsuya Kuroko, the sixth member of the "Generation of Miracles," and Taiga Kagami, a player with natural talent who spent much of his boyhood in the US, are now attempting to elevate Seirin to the top of Japan by defeating each of Kuroko's former colleagues one at a time. The progress of Seirin to become the top high school team in Japan is followed in the series. Ryota Kise, Shintaro Midorima, Daiki Aomine, Atsushi Murasakibara, and Seijuro Akashi are members of the Generation of Miracles.
