Will awakens to the faces of a skeleton, a ghost, and a mummy after being born into a new world following a life of inactivity. The three raise Will as one of their own while residing in the ruins of a long-gone city. He learns how to fight from Blood the Skeleton, learns magic from Gus the Ghost, and learns faith and responsibility from Mary the Mummy. Above all else, they all teach him love. Will gets ready for the day when he must finally go it alone as he gets older and learns more about the society he was born into. Will has a lifetime promise that goes along with this quest. Every adult must take an oath to the god of their choice when they reach legal adulthood; the sincerity of the oath determines the extent of the vowed god's blessing. Will must get ready to embrace the reality of his zombie guardians as he prepares to leave and enter a world that not even they are familiar with. Will learns, however, that every oath must be kept in some capacity.
