The city was divided into two parts: Satellite, the rundown and impoverished section (also known as the former Domino City), and Neo Domino City, the wealthy and urban portion, seventeen years earlier when a reactor called Moment inside the city malfunctioned and produced a significant earthquake. Access to the city from the Satellite is severely forbidden and punishable by imprisonment in order to keep the two places distinct. An aspiring duelist from Satellite named Yusei Fudo constructs his own Duel Runner (known as a D-Wheel in the Japanese edition), but his closest friend Jack Atlas betrays him and takes both the vehicle and his most prized monster, the Stardust Dragon, fleeing to Neo Domino.
