Ajin
Ajin tells the tale of Nagai Kei, a student, who finds out he is a "Ajin" after being mortally injured in a car accident. In the universe of Ajin, a select few humans (referred to as "Ajin") have exceptional regenerative powers that kick in upon death and enable them to fully recover from any lethal wound in a matter of seconds. Additionally, Ajin have the ability to generate "black ghosts," very lethal, combat-focused beings that are only visible to other Ajin. "Black ghosts" have sharp teeth and claws, are resistant to physical harm, and possess exceptional physical strength. Different "black ghosts" have different levels of intelligence: while the majority are totally dependent on their Ajin for guidance, others, like Kei's, are more independent and more willing to take initiative themselves. As a result, the public views Ajin as being dangerous and inhuman, and the majority are captured by governments. Although governments pretend to defend Ajin, in reality, the majority subject them to harsh and barbaric experiments because of their capacity to fully recover from deadly wounds, which provides an endless supply of organs and bodies for risky studies (such as live-fire weapons testing). Because of this, Ajin who have escaped from government custody—like Satou, the game's main antagonist—are determined to seek revenge on authorities. However, Kei makes a deal with Japanese government officials to fight against Satou in exchange for his freedom from government experimentation even though he has no desire to take part in the developing Ajin-human battle.
