Chou Denji Robo Combattler V
The inhabitants of the planet Campbell made the decision thousands of years ago to leave their home and look for new planets to settle. One crew, under the direction of the scientist Oreana, landed on Earth but experienced delays with their objective. Early in the twenty-first century, Oreana's group reawakens and launches their strategy to take over the planet. The super-electromagnetic robot Combattler V and its pilots are the sole effective defense against the enormous bio-mechanical slave animals of the Campbellians. The first season saw Garuda dispatch numerous mecha to fight Combattler V, and the entire series adheres to the then-standard monster-of-the-week structure. His strategies include using force, deceit, and kidnapping captives. He even engages Hyouma in a sword duel while their feet are shackled; however, Oreana saves him just as Hyouma is ready to murder him. His faith in Oreana wanes as the series goes on. At some point, Garuda realizes that he is actually a cyborg and finds a robot built just for him. He defeats Oreana and faces off against Combattler V in the season's last episode, which ultimately results in his demise. Empress Janelor and her generals Dungele and Warchimedes are featured in the second season. The second season's format is relatively similar to the previous one, although it features more serious narrative elements including hostage taking and team murder plans. When the Campbellian empress eventually deploys her full base, Combattler V can only take it out with the aid of the airborne Nanbara Connection Base. Nevertheless, Janelor is able to launch a "Earth Bomb" that is intended to destroy Earth. Notably, the team is not discouraged; rather, they are composed and grateful for the opportunity to defend Earth. The "real" leader of the Campbellians, Deus, arrives in a golden wagon just as it appears that Earth would be destroyed, alerting the team to the coup d'état at Campbell and disabling the bomb before it can reach the planet's core.
