The parents of Xiao Yan (Leo Wu) are Xiao Zhan (Yu Rongguang) and Gu Wenxin (Carman Lee). When Xiao Yan was nine years old, his mother was murdered by foes, but his father never brought it up. His mother's ring absorbed all of his advancement until he was fifteen years old, which prevented his martial art from progressing.
