"Gegege no Kitarou (2018)" is the sixth and latest anime adaptation of the classic manga series "Gegege no Kitarou" by Shigeru Mizuki. This series started in April 2018, marking the 50th anniversary of the anime franchise. The story follows Kitarou, a yōkai (supernatural creature from Japanese folklore) boy and the last member of the Ghost Tribe. Together with his eyeball father Medama-Oyaji, nekomusume (cat girl) and other supernatural companions, he strives to maintain peace between the human world and the yōkai world. Kitarou and his friends work to resolve conflicts that arise when malevolent yōkai cause problems for humans or other yōkai. Often, these issues mirror problems in contemporary society, allowing the series to comment on real-world issues.
