Hell Girl: Three Vessels
Although the method of contact between a client and Ai Enma has evolved over time, it is now done via a website. Initially, customers would write the names of people they despised on an ema; later, they would send a letter to the address found in a three-column newspaper ad that was only viewable to those who had enough animosity. The "Hotline to Hell," also known as the "Hell Correspondence," was accessible once the internet was enabled. Soon later, a mobile version of the website that could be accessed via smartphones was created. Each medium can only be used at midnight by someone who wants to exact retribution on the person they despise. Ai Enma will take someone to a realm of perpetual twilight if they submit the name of someone they have a grudge or intense hatred for and their request is granted. There, she will give them a straw doll that is one of her companions with a red string wrapped around its neck and explain the terms of their contract. If the customer pulls the string that is fastened to the doll's neck, Ai Enma will immediately transport the intended victim of the retaliation to Hell. A black mark in the shape of a crest emerges on the client's chest as a permanent reminder of their choice to send someone to Hell, but once the client's life has ended, they will also go to Hell. This mark does not, however, ensure that the bearer will not be condemned to Hell by another client.
