Gatchaman
Conservation, environmentalism, and the appropriate application of technology for advancement are recurring themes in Gatchaman. The five young superhero ninja at the center of the series are hired by Kzabur Nambu of the made-up International Science Organization to fight against the technologically advanced terrorist group known as Galactor, which is attempting to control the planet's natural resources like uranium, water, oil, and sugar. Berg Katse, an androgynous, masked adversary who leads Galactor, is later revealed to be a shape-shifting mutant carrying out an alien superior's commands (Leader X). Their mechas frequently have animal designs. Except for Jinpei, the majority of the team are in their late teens (who is about ten or eleven years old). They are Ry Nakanishi, the ship's pilot; Ken Washio, the team commander and tactical expert; J Asakura, his second-in-command marksman and weapons expert; Jun, the team's electronics and demolitions specialist; Jinpei, the team's youngest member and reconnaissance expert; and Jinpei, Jun's adoptive brother. The main characters dress like teenagers and either numbered T-shirts to indicate their position in the team or caped, avian-inspired battle costumes. A group of combat pilots led by the mysterious Red Impulse, who is eventually identified as Ken's father, frequently assists the Science Ninja Team.
