All of China is in a position of economic recovery following the conclusion of the extensive coalition campaign. The state of Qin, the battle's winner, is no different. There, internal strife between the political groups led by Ying Zheng and Buwei Lü is still present. Zheng has the people's trust after taking on the role of king in the coalition war, but Lü is still very much in the game. He intends to interrupt Zheng's coming-of-age ceremony in 18 months. A Zhao army with 20,000 soldiers has been moving toward Qin in the meantime. Because there aren't any generals in the royal court who can deal with the oncoming threat, Lü subtly advises that Zheng take charge. Cheng Jiao, Zheng's half-brother, offers to do it instead. During the coalition battle, they gained each other's trust, and Zheng now accepts Jiao as his replacement. However, after engaging Jiao's army, the Zhao soldiers retreat in under a half-day. The fight within Qin is made much more difficult by the crisis that is quietly brewing. Only two men, Bi, a general in charge of 30,000 soldiers, and Xin, the commander of the Fei Xin force, do Zheng feel he can trust.
