Ten years ago, the World Tree, which guarded global peace and order, came under attack from the Zakum, an evil group. In a conflict with the Zakums, the Human race led four other races—the valiant warriors, the wise wizards, the nimble archers, and the cunning thieves. The World Tree eventually turned on self-destruction to defend itself. The Human race was blamed by the other races for destroying the World Tree, though. Most races had nothing left when the World Tree was destroyed, so some of them traveled to Maple Island in the belief that those who remained would perish. They fled Victoria and settled on Maple Island, where life is increasingly difficult. Since then, there has been an endless struggle between the various races. Al, the main character, is determined to bring the World Tree back ten years later. Al and his companions set out on their quest to find the World Tree seeds. The Zakums return at the same time.
