Conan was the only child ever born on Remnant Island, which a group of refugees fled to after being chased by a terrible wave of magnetic bombs that killed the majority of people. Except for Conan and the wise old man who fostered him, the most of the castaways have passed away after 20 years. Conan is astonished to find a young girl named Lana washing up on the shore one day because he thinks Remnant Island is the last inhabited location on Earth. Although Lana informs him the nation of Industria wants her as a hostage to force her grandfather, Dr. Lao, to power their equipment, he tells her that he is delighted to hear that mankind has survived. When Industria's top pilot, Monsley, unexpectedly approaches and grabs Lana, their talk is cut short. Conan promptly departs from Remnant Island on a trip that will eventually decide the fate of the planet because he is determined to save her.
