Pokémon trainer Satoshi and his companion Pikachu travel to Melemele Island of the lovely Alola region after his mother wins a free trip to the islands. This island is home to several new Pokémon as well as variants of well-known species. Satoshi and Pikachu are eager to explore the island, and as they run amok in pursuit of a Pokémon, they rapidly get lost. Finally, the two come across the Pokémon School, a facility where people go to learn more about these amazing creatures. Satoshi learns about the overwhelming strength of the Z-Moves, potent strikes from the Alola area that demand coordination between the trainer and Pokémon when used in the school by him and one of the students, the feisty Kaki. The enigmatic Kapu Kokeko, the guardian god Pokémon of Melemele Island, appears to him and Pikachu later that evening. They receive a Z-Ring from the legendary Pokémon, which is required for performing Z-Moves. With the Z-Ring in their possession and still reeling from their earlier encounter, Satoshi and Pikachu decide to remain in the Alola Region to learn and perfect the strength of these potent new attacks. When Satoshi enrolls in the Pokémon School, he is joined by friends like Kaki, Lillie, who adores Pokémon but finds it difficult to touch them, and many more. Satoshi and Pikachu are in for a thrilling new adventure as they attend classes, ward off the troublesome Team Rocket—who also have arrived in Alola to clear the way for their organization's future plans—and take on the Island Challenge that is necessary to learn the Z-Moves.
