Oriko "Okko" Seki is forced to confront her sudden harsh reality after being taken against her will to a festival in her parents' small-town hometown: both of her parents are killed in a vehicle accident not long after they arrive. Okko is now forced to reside at her grandmother's historic hot springs inn, where she discovers the ghost of a little girl in bare feet. He exhorts Okko to follow her grandmother's example and get ready to take over the inn. At first, Okko finds it difficult to manage the inn's duties and the accommodations of visitors. But she tries to remember her parents' words that an inn is a place where everyone is welcome. Okko discovers that even if her parents are dead, she need not be alone after finding a few other spirits in the community.
