At her mother's request, Suletta Mercury departs home planet and enrolls in the Asticassia School of Technology. The school uses student dueling to determine right and wrong, with the victor receiving Miorine Rembran as their fiancée—a prize set by Miorine's father. The finest pilot in the class and Miorine's current fiancé, Guel Jeturk, demands that his bride-to-be move home with him. Suletta objects, so Guel confronts her. Even though she wins, Suletta's triumph is overturned when she is later arrested on suspicion of using a GUND-ARM, sometimes known as a "Gundam," which is a prohibited sort of mobile suit.
